Grassroots Innovation - Multi-purpose Aloe Vera processing machine
This grassroots innovation is a multi-purpose processing machine which is capable of extracting juice, oil or gel from multiple herbs. The innovator Dharamveer kamboj, of Haryana, India had developed this machine originally to extract Aloe Vera juice and Aloe Vera jel, however it turned into a multi-purpose herb processing machine. Dharamveer used to work as a rickshaw puller in Delhi where he realized that his knowledge of herbs can earn him good money but his unfortunate accident forced him to return back to his village. He had farming of Aloe Vera in village and he knew from his stay in Delhi that these herbs are in great demand in cities for their medicinal and other uses. He decided to make his Aloe Vera farming more profitable by processing it. He started developing a machine for processing Aloe Vera into Aloe Vera juice, oil, gel and other extracts.
Features and advantages of Aloe Vera processing machine
The whole system mainly consists of an autoclave unit, a boiler unit and an extractor unit. The extractor unit in turn comprise of one frame with a set of blades, one condenser and a grinder. The peeled Aloe Vera is put into boiler to extract the juice and the peeled out skin is processed into the boiler to get its steam which is then condensed and mixed with gelatin powder to get the Aloe Vera gel.
- The machine can be used for extracting juice from fruits and vegetables also however for that its boiler is not used.

Recognition and support for the multipurpose herb processing machine
This grassroots innovation was covered in various local and national newspapers and the machine became popular among farmers. Dharamveer has sold its 25 units under the brand name of prince in Haryana and surrounding states. GIAN and NIF has supported this innovation financially and also in providing and arranging useful technical guidance for its refinements. Dharamveer has got an FPO license for juices or extracts of any fruit or herb processed through this machine. Government has also provided subsidy to its purchaser. NIF has awarded this innovation in its national competition for unaided green grassroots innovations and traditional knowledge.
