Caring for Your Doll Clothes
Do you ever remember the first time you received a doll? You were full of delight; your joy was incomparable. You felt you got a sister, playmate, and friend. Truly, dolls are a young girl's best friend. After a long and tiring day at school, girls hug their dolls and play with them. If adults have stress-busting entertainment facilities, young girls have simple dolls and doll houses.
Children dress their dolls according to their own tastes in fashion. They purchase sets of clothes for various occasions. They have dresses, sports attires, costumes, winter coats, summer wears, and nighties. Kids engage them in different activities, and they feign real-life events. In any occasion, you want your doll to be "in".
Doll clothes are luxurious and expensive. Like human clothes, they need proper care and maintenance to preserve their good appearance. Doll manufacturers recommend cleaning techniques and tips for doll clothes. Ideally, doll clothes are separately washed from human clothes. They are not washed in washing machines. They are small pieces of clothes; they might hang onto machine propellers and drop on holes. If you are going to clean doll clothes in washing machines, place them in a mesh bag, sealable pillow case, or fish net. This secures doll clothes and prevents them from mixing up with big and hefty garments.
Have your doll clothes discolored over time? Do they have irremovable stains and marks? Here are some techniques in washing doll clothes.
- Handle doll clothes carefully. Do not brush or bleach them. Do not mix chlorine chemicals with detergent solutions. Chlorine chemicals can tarnish colored garments of 18 inch doll clothes. They can break down fiber strands on fabric, causing them to become brittle. At times, bleached fabrics shrink and deform.
- Color-test detergent solutions on inner garment. Through this, you will be able to know whether a detergent is suitable for your 18 inch doll clothes. If the solution causes a mark or stain on the cloth, change your detergent. Aside from detergent solutions, you can also use vinegar-water solution and soap snowflakes mixture.
- Some fabrics are highly sensitive to detergents and chemical solutions. Instead of washing them, clean them with a foam spray cleaner. Apply this on 18 in doll clothes, and remove it with a soft dry brush. This effectively removes stains and marks on sensitive fabrics.
