Tips On The Bichon Frise
Among the small dog breeds, the Bichon Frise is one of the friendliest. Other small dogs as dauschunds, pomeranians or jack russell terriers are the loud, prone to yappingand kind, but this is not the case with the Bichon Frise breed. This bodes well for your ears, and your surrounding neighbors’ ears.
Sometimes it can be difficult finding the “not too hot, not too cold” dog for your family, especially if have any children. Certain breeds of smaller dogs have a reputation for snapping and a general irritation for the younger homosapiens, so most parents have a tendency to shy away from them. This isn't the case with the delightful Bichon Frise. You will get the company of a dog that revels in attention and socializing. They love the company of humans, adults and children a like.
Origins And History Of The Bichon Frise Breed
So where did this white puffball of love and fun come from? The Bichon Frise is a cross between the Barbet water spaniel and the Poodle. Good thing it was not named the “Barpoo” or “Poobet”, or even “Bandle. The Bichon was bounced around the Mediterranean countries before eventually ending up in France. Even though the race got its name from the French language, it is pronounced with a strong British accent.
Its characteristic appearance is given by its coat, which is white as snow and full of curls, definitely ressembling to the coat of a Poodle. It has a cute face, with two little black round eyes and a button nose emerging from the curls of hair. Another curl is their tail that makes them looking like prancing when they are walking. That is an emphasis on “when” as these cute little dogs have the most fun when they are carried around. They love to be carried in their arms. You will carry him like you were be carrying your child.
The Bichon Frise dogs are higly intelligent and able to quicky learn different tricks, the good thing beeing they don't like to play breacking things around your house. Of course, you can get a house broken one, but you can easily unlearn it. And as the dog doesn't weight more than ten pounds, the damages cannot be too big in case of an accident. Patience is a must in this area. The easiest way is to let it play with lots of puppy potty training pads.
You must also consider the grooming time before getting yourself a Bichon Frise dog. And not only the home made but also professional grooming. At home they require a daily brush an every week to be avoided the tangles and the matted spots. The professional grooming sessions should be monthly, or at least every six weeks. Some owners choose the “puppy cut” look, which keeps the coat very short. But there will be no more curls to play with, so it may be better to daily brush the long haired coat. Please do not attempt to professionally groom your dog yourself. Think of those home-made haircuts your mother was so fond of giving you and call the nearest pet salon.
The Bichon Frise really is a wonderful little dog. Always research before deciding of getting one at home. There are lots of information about all the features of the breed. And it is worth to know every little thing if we are speaking about a pedigreed pet.
